You can lead an attorney to a new piece of technology, but you can’t make them use it. The never-ending riddle that is change management was at the heart of the “Advanced Technology in Legal Operations; What’s Working Now and How to Make It Work In Your Department” panel held during Thursday’s chapter of the 2021 ACC Xchange conference.

One of the main takeaways was that, while nobody may particularly like the change management process, a legal department’s technology implementation process is more or less doomed without one. “Anybody who does one of these projects and doesn’t recognize the importance of the change management component of it, is going to fail,” said panelist Steve Poor, a partner at Seyfarth Shaw.
