There might not be a federal data privacy law in sight, but companies should start acting like there is as California, Virginia and perhaps Florida begin rolling out state-level data privacy laws.

Adhering to the growing patchwork of data privacy laws will become too costly and force companies to extend data privacy rights to all U.S. citizens—even if their state hasn’t passed a privacy law, said lawyers gathered for a Legalweek (year) 2021 panel.
