During the 2020-2021 academic year, lots of lessons will be learned as a result of colleges and universities returning to the business of teaching students. More of those lessons will be learned outside of the classroom, because only a small percentage of campuses are offering a solely in-person or primarily in person option. The rest are offering either primarily online or hybrid options in order to maintain at least some sense of normalcy.

Fortunately, there are multiple technology solutions available to bridge the gap between the lecture and the classroom for students and instructors who are in remote learning experience. However, the risks associated with using some of solutions must be assessed on a case by case basis, in order to avoid violating students’ rights to privacy under the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
