According to the FBI, 2018 saw a 47% increase in cyberattacks year-over-year, with targeted attacks outnumbering mass campaigns as cybercriminals continue to diversify their malicious efforts. With today’s businesses facing a new and evolving threat landscape, they’re being forced to find ways to combat hackers and protect themselves. Legal firms are no exception and are increasingly being targeted by adversaries given their direct access to large amounts of sensitive information.

In fact, the American Bar Association recently found that 23% of respondents working in laws firms experienced a data breach at some point in 2018. This compares to just 14% who shared this sentiment in 2016, marking a 64% increase in just two short years. It’s imperative that lawyers recognize the need to protect themselves, and even more importantly their customers against security threats, and consider what steps they must take to proactively prepare as if they’re going to be the next victim.
