The European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation was created to protect the privacy of individuals. But for trademark and intellectual property owners, it appears to be creating some headaches when it comes to domain names.

The EU’s GDPR was passed in November 2016 and took effect on May 25. The goal of the regulation has been to protect EU citizens’ personal information by implementing tougher standards for processors of this data around the world, but there have also been IP side effects.
