1. Commuting

Commuting in London can often be a two-hour commute every day on crowded trains. However, for Burges Salmon employees, many have the luxury of choosing to walk, cycle or even catch the ferry to work. This means commuting could be a half-hour walk door to door. Nearly two years after joining the firm, one of our people commented: “The ‘novelty’ of having my evenings free just never gets old!”

2. Food

If you’ve ever visited, you’ll know that Bristol is a great place for anyone who likes their food. There are a huge number of different restaurants to choose from and there are new places opening all the time. Some favourites on our doorstep include Hart’s Bakery, Veeno and Yurt Lush.

3. Drink

Bristol is famous for its cider and it’s fantastic for beer lovers too, with many great pubs all across the city and surrounding countryside. We’re quite spoilt at Burges Salmon, as we have a lot of different options within walking distance of the office, which are ideal for Friday after-work drinks. Some favourites include Moor Beer Co, Wild Beer Co and the Grain Barge.

4. The South West

The South West’s green and charming countryside is just a short drive, cycle or train ride out of the city. There are some amazing places for walking, such as the Mendip Hills (where our running club competes in Uphill to Wells), the Cotswolds or Westonbirt Arboretum. The world famous city of Bath is only 10 minutes by train from Bristol, and many National Trust properties are also close by.

5. Bristol events

There are always things to do in Bristol, with iconic sites such as the Clifton Suspension Bridge, SS Great Britain and the Matthew waiting to be visited. You may also wish to enjoy the Harbourside, Cabot Tower or the Bristol Zoo, as well as Clifton Village, Cabot Circus and Cribbs Causeway for shopping. Big events include the Balloon Fiesta, the Bristol Harbour Festival, as well as West End theatre shows, exhibitions (such as Banksy) and a fantastic live music scene.
