Fieldfisher held off esteemed competition to claim the Law Firm of the Year award, sponsored by Fulcrum GT, in recognition of its efforts to harness technology as a way to differentiate itself from traditional firms.

Specialising in data protection, IP, competition, litigation, outsourcing, corporate and finance law, the firm’s tech-based delivery model combines high-quality legal expertise with innovative IT processes that save clients both time and money.

A revamped strategy that focuses on a smaller number of key sectors – technology, finance, and energy and natural resources – has seen its revenue grow 34% to £165m.

The firm continues to expand internationally as well, with 33% of its revenue coming from outside of the UK. In the past year it has opened offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Amsterdam and across Italy, with plans to open in Spain next year and a goal to have a presence in all major European markets by 2019.

The firm also has a number of diversity initiatives in place – some 75% of senior associates are female. “The figures speak for themselves – profitable, targeted expansion for a firm that in the past has tended to get lost in the crowd,” said one judge.
