Osborne Clarke hires Squire Patton Boggs UK private equity head

Osborne Clarke (OC) has strengthened its City private equity team with the hire of Squire Patton Boggs UK private equity head Tim Hewens.

Hewens started at Osborne Clarke on Monday (2 October) after 16 years at transatlantic firm Squire Patton Boggs, including the last three years at the helm of the UK private equity practice.

Hewens started at Osborne Clarke on Monday (2 October) after 16 years at transatlantic firm Squire Patton Boggs, including the last three years at the helm of the UK private equity practice. OC's��<a href="http://www.legalweek.com/sites/legalweek/2014/12/11/osborne-clarke-appoints-new-head-of-business-transactions/">head of business transactions Greg Leyshon</a> said Hewens�� hire is a key part of the UK firm��s ongoing push to expand its private equity practice, which has quadrupled its revenue in the past five years. ��Good quality private equity partners �� and Tim is one of those �� are very hard to find. We have been searching for someone like Tim for a long time and his hire is a key part of our ongoing strategy to develop our private equity platform.�� He added: ��We have been on the other side of the table from Tim on deals, so we knew his quality as a partner and we knew his style would fit well with ours, and that his client base was very complementary to ours.�� Leyshon also said that Hewens' client relationships complement OC's existing private equity client list. ��If you look at the OC client base, we act for the likes of LDC, GCP, Inflexion, Caledonia and Phoenix. Tim has relationships at a number of those houses that are complementary to ours, particularly GCP and Inflexion, and he also brings new relationships such as Mobeus and Tenzing,�� he said. OC has been focusing on expanding its private equity ranks in recent years, bringing in former Eversheds��<a href="http://www.legalweek.com/sites/legalweek/2013/03/03/the-transfer-window-recent-moves-including-oc-freshfields-and-cc/">private equity head Mark Spinner</a> in 2013 and private equity partner Russell van Praagh from McDermott Will & Emery in 2014. In addition, the firm promoted venture capital and private equity partner Simon Jones and fund formation partner Helen Parsonage to its partnership earlier this year. Leyshon said: ��Private equity has always been a big part of our practice but over the last five years, our PE revenues have quadrupled and the number of partners we have got focused on this has increased from five to 11.�� Hewens has been succeeded as UK head of private equity at Squire Patton Boggs by Leeds partner Paul Mann. <
