Why did you become a lawyer?
One of my favourite uncles was a successful barrister. His stories of tussles in the courtroom sounded very entertaining and full of drama. My first choice of career was to play professional rugby, but I wasn’t quite good enough and I had an unfortunate ability to pick up injuries at the drop of a hat, which put an end to that dream.

Who has been the biggest influence on your career?
My father. He grew up in rural Nigeria in the 1940s and embarked on an amazing journey to become a leading cardiology professor.

What’s your proudest professional moment?
Being elected as a partner.

Aside from your own firm, which lawyer do you most admire and why?
James Baird. He was one of the first lawyers who specialised in private equity in the City. There was nothing he had not seen before – an ice-cool negotiator with a wicked sense of humour.
