English law is admired around the world, but there is still room for improvement in cultivating its success

The English legal system is one of our most enduringly successful industries. As highlighted in a recent report by TheCityUK, legal services contributed £20.4bn to the UK’s GDP in 2012. Three of the five largest global 100 law firms, based on headcount in 2012-13, were from the UK, and every firm in the US top 20 has an office in the City. Also, the UK is the largest legal market in Europe, accounting for a fifth of European fee income, and UK firms generated more than 17% of the global 100′s gross revenue in 2012-13.
