Getting the right building blocks in place to create and sustain value from the right organisational structure is a key challenge for the modern day GC. Clearly, the CEO/Board will have a major influence on how the legal function should be structured and you will have to find a way of fitting your preferred solution into the jigsaw puzzle that is the wider organisation around you.

Whatever the result, the more important task is making it work as effectively as possible and not about searching for the utopian structure.
