King & Spalding has set out ambitious plans to effectively double its London presence by the end of 2014, ramping up the size of its City base to between 60 and 75 fee earners. The US firm has 13 partners and 18 other lawyers in its City base as part of a 35-strong fee-earning team – including paralegals and trainees – and is now looking to grow partner and associate headcount by 70% to 110% in the next 18 months. Sectors that the City base has identified for expansion include energy, life sciences and financial institutions, with a particular focus on dispute resolution, its largest practice group in London. King & Spalding also hopes to launch pharmaceuticals and international trade practices in the capital.
