A burgeoning relationship - the benefits of sovereign wealth funds investing in private equity
Many investors have recently broadened the scope of the investments they make, for example, as part of a diversification of their investment strategy or to seek higher returns. Sovereign wealth funds (SWFs) are no exception to this and so-called alternative investments, including private equity, have seen increased interest from SWFs in recent years. This has coincided with a scaling back of private equity investment by more traditional private equity investors due in part to, for example, changes in regulatory regimes (such as tighter capital rules and the introduction of the Volcker Rule) and constraints imposed by the recent global economic downturn.
