“I am currently undertaking pupillage at a provincial common law set of chambers, and am due to qualify in October 2012. Getting pupillage was incredibly hard, took years of my life and required moving out of London into the provinces. However, having now experienced life at the Bar, I think I have made a mistake in choosing to qualify as a barrister and feel I would have been better off pursuing a career as a solicitor.

“I have found that I don’t particularly like the various elements that make up the job, such as conducting advocacy in court on a daily basis, having a high turnover of cases, and doing most of my work at last minute the evening before a hearing.
