Despite a procession of high-profile names including Hugh Grant (pictured, right), JK Rowling and Sienna Miller preparing to give evidence in the Leveson inquiry into the ethics and culture of the press, lawyers look set to be almost as much the stars of the show as the celebrities as the process runs over the coming year.

As sole counsel to 51 core victims of phone hacking selected to participate in the inquiry, 5RB’s David Sherborne (pictured, left) last week launched an attack on the “bullying” tabloid press. Indeed, Sherborne was regarded by many as the standout figure last week as the inquiry opened for business – with a muscular speech at one point described by The Guardian as a “three-and-a-half hour soliloquy on just how dreadful the popular press is in this country”.
