“I’ve recently been made redundant from a well-paid, non-legal job and am considering switching careers to become a solicitor. I’m in my mid-30s, so this is a big commitment, and a specific concern I have is around career progression and salaries in the legal sector.

“I can stomach two years of not working (while doing the GDL and LPC) and then two more being paid a graduate wage. But after this I’d want to leverage my managerial experience and industry-specific knowledge to climb quickly up the ladder to partnership and reap the benefits that go with this.
