Italian mid-market firm NCTM has successfully merged with independent outfit Janni Fauda & Associati to build one of the country’s biggest law firms.

Janni Fauda’s thirty-lawyer operation, which includes three equity partners, five salaried partners and two of counsel will join forces with NCTM’s Milan and Rome offices, bulking up its litigation, M&A, restructuring and employment practices.

The tie-up will see NCTM’s fee earner headcount increase to 290 across the firm’s five offices in Rome, Milan, Verona, London and Brussels.

The three equity partners joining the firm are Guido Fauda, Aulo Cossu and Fabrizio Pavarotti.

NCTM senior partner Paolo Montironi commented: “The merger confirms the validity of NCTM’s strategy to grow as an independent institution and to continue to be recognised as a firm with a clear strategic vision.”

Since its inception in 2000 NCTM has grown quickly, posting double-digit growth in 2008 despite the difficult market conditions. The firm increased revenues by 15% to around €63m (£55.8m), up from €55m (£48.7m) the previous year. It is one of only a few Italian firms to discuss its financial results.

Earlier this year the firm appointed a new managing partner, with Piermauro Carabellese appointed to co-manage the firm alongside existing managing partner Vittorio Noseda. Carabellese’s appointment is for an initial period of four years. He will serve with Noseda for at least two years until Noseda’s current four-year term comes up for review.
