Field Fisher Waterhouse has appointed four new partners in its annual promotions round.

All of the promotions come in the firm’s City headquarters for the second year running, after the firm last year made up a total of six in London.

Half of the promotions are female, with Rebecca Swindells made up in intellectual property dispute resolution and Sam Critchley in personal injury. Oliver Abel Smith is promoted to partner in commercial and finance, while Joe Payne has been made up in the firm’s property litigation practice.

Managing partner Moira Gilmour said: “I am delighted to welcome these four talented lawyers to the partnership. We are committed to the development of our assistants and the promotion of homegrown talent is key to our long-term plans for growth. In a tough economic environment they have all put in strong performances and I would like to congratulate them on their success.”

The promotions bring the total number of partners at Field Fisher to 132 across its four European locations. The firm has been in expansive mode during the last 12 months, bringing in 17 lateral partners in Europe – most recently the hire of a three-lawyer planning and regeneration team from Bevan Brittan.

However, the firm has been forced to carry out three redundancy consultations which have seen a total of 12 fee earners and 38 secretarial and support staff laid off.
