Addleshaw Goddard has promoted four lawyers to the post of legal director, the national giant announced this week (21 April).

London-based Simon Courie has been made up in finance & projects, Leeds-based Susan Maxey and Andrew Williamson were promoted in real estate and Graeme Warburton was made up in contentious.

The latest round of promotions, which takes the total number of legal directors across the firm to 37, is a reduction from last year when 10 were promoted to the role. The new promotions take effect from 1 May.

Addlesshaws in 2004 became one of the first major UK law firms to introduce the legal director role, which operates as an alternative to partnership for high performers.

Addleshaw Goddard managing partner Mark Jones said: “Our business would like to congratulate each individual on their promotion. The continued investment in the legal director role, and recent promotion of seven new partners, is evidence of our firm’s genuine commitment to a culture which enables our people to succeed and flourish.”

Earlier this year, Addleshaws became the first major UK firm to announce its new partner promotions, making up seven lawyers to its partnership across its UK three offices in Leeds, Manchester and London.

The firm’s contentious, construction and employment practices gained two partners apiece while the infrastructure, projects and energy group gains one. No-one was promoted to the partnership from the corporate practice.
