UBS chairman and former legal head Peter Kurer is to step down after a year in the post. Kurer, who joined UBS in 2001 as group general counsel, has said that he will not stand for re-election at the bank's annual general meeting in April, which comes only a year after he was controversially appointed in the role. He replaced Marcel Ospel as chairman but his appointment drew extensive criticism in the press and among the banking community, with Kurer accused of lacking the requisite skills and experience because of his legal rather than banking background.
