Glasgow City Council has completed a review of its legal advisers, with DLA Piper and Pinsent Masons winning major instructions from the organisation.

The new roster has been split into nine sub-panels covering the council’s key work areas and is set to deliver cost savings of 5%-10% in comparison with the previous roster.

DLA Piper has landed instructions on six of the firm’s nine sub-panels, including general corporate, construction and planning, while Pinsent Masons and McGrigors have also been handed multiple roles on the new roster.

A spokesperson for Glasgow City Council said: “We have worked with most of these firms in the past and we are delighted that we now have such a broad range of legal expertise on hand with this new framework.”

The panel appointments will run for the next three years and will come up for renewal in December 2011.

News of the appointments follows other legal reviews by governmental organisations. In December, the Treasury Solicitor’s Department unveiled its new Lit-Cat panel, with 40 regional and national firms gaining places on the roster.

Birmingham City Council is currently tendering for places for its new roster, which is set to be unveiled in September 2009.
