Olswang may have to separate its UK practice from its offices in Brussels and Berlin as the City law firm gears up to become one of the first in the top 50 to take advantage of the Legal Services Act (LSA).The firm is in discussions with partners in its London and overseas offices about how best to structure itself to allow patent-attorneys and non-lawyer management into the partnership under Legal Disciplinary Partnerships (LDPs).Options being considered include ring-fencing overseas operations in a separate limited liability partnership (LLP) in order to bypass rules in countries such as Germany, which are unlikely to cater for the proposed changes under the LSA.
