Nearly 10 years ago, at a seminar for trial lawyers, David Boies and Theodore Wells Jr gave mock opening statements in a theoretical accounting case. To date, it is the only time the much-lauded advocates have tested their trial skills against each other. It is as if Ali and Frazier sparred in a gym, but never fought in Madison Square Garden.That could change next month. On 2 March the beleaguered insurance giant AIG, is scheduled to go to trial in New York federal court against Starr International Company (SICO), which is run by former AIG CEO and chairman Maurice 'Hank' Greenberg. Wells, of Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison, will represent AIG, while Boies, chairman of Boies Schiller & Flexner, will represent SICO.
