Law firm duo score new instructions with healthcare giant set to complete adviser review

BUPA is poised to complete a review of its M&A advisers with Travers Smith and Mills & Reeve set to win new instructions from the healthcare company.

BUPA, which started reviewing its advisers across most of its main practice areas including litigation and NHS procurement last February, is still to finalise the M&A panel; however, Travers and Wragge & Co have already been selected to handle work valued between £30m and £250m.

The organisation has also chosen Ansons, Pitmans and Mills & Reeve to handle work valued at less than £10m. It is still looking to select a third adviser for deals valued between £30m-£250m as well as advisory firms for high-end work in excess of £250m, for which it currently uses Slaughter and May.

Serena Davidson, head of legal for group and M&A, told Legal Week: “At the moment we are still considering what to do with the upper tier of M&A work and there are a number of firms knocking on the door.

“The panel structure will be handled on fluid basis and we will reserve the right to look outside to use non-panel firms where we deem it necessary.”

The firm has also begun a review of its advisers on employment matters.

The review will be conducted by head of legal employment Richard Horbury and is expected to complete by the end of the second quarter. BUPA currently uses DLA Piper, Beachcroft and Eversheds for employment work.
