Herbert Smith has successfully defended itself against arbitration proceedings brought against the firm by Russian aluminium giant Rusal. The dispute, which settled at the end of last year and is understood to have included concerns about Herbert Smith's fee levels, related to advice given to Rusal by Herbert Smith in the long-running Talco litigation. The litigation - which settled four weeks into a scheduled 18-week trial late last year - was billed as one of the most expensive cases in UK legal history, with Herbert Smith's fees expected to have hit $100m (£69m) had it run its full course.
