“I graduated this summer with a first class LLB from a Redbrick uni. Resultantly I am keen to apply to the magic circle. However, my problem is this – I left school at 16 with laughable GCSEs and no A-levels. After travelling for an extended period of time (i.e. five years), I took an Access Course in Law and went to uni.

“Given the calibre of candidates that inevitably apply to such firms, and the seeming reticence of the magic circle to embrace non-traditional academic backgrounds, do my fellow readers feel that I would be perhaps more realistic to aim for less prestigious firms? I am worried that one look at my GCSEs will send my application straight to the reject pile, despite my degree result. Any thoughts?”
