Latham & Watkins has become the first major law firm to announce that it is freezing associate pay levels for 2009. While a number of leading US firms have revealed that they are to reduce or freeze bonuses, Latham is the first to announce it is to hold salary rates at 2008 levels.The firm is one of the most generous in terms of associate pay, with newly-qualified lawyers netting £96,000 in the City, while their New York counterparts start on $160,000 (£104,000).
