Allen & Overy (A&O) has been ordered to disclose its estimated costs in a patent dispute after a judge slammed the UK approach to cost control of litigation as “inadequate and unsatisfactory”.

The unusual order, which was granted by Mr Justice Arnold earlier this month (5 December), will force the magic circle firm to provide details of all of the costs incurred to date representing Research in Motion (RIM) in a dispute with US technology company Visto.
