“I’m midway through my third seat and rapidly falling out of love with the law. I realise that part of my malaise might be that the current climate isn’t conducive to a pleasant office atmosphere, with a general air of discontent permeating the workplace, but I’m fairly sure that it’s more than that (this isn’t my first job, I spent four years working in non-legal spheres, so it’s not just that I don’t like working!).

“I’m interested to hear people’s opinions on whether I should risk moving out of the law on qualification and into something altogether different. If so, what chance do I have of coming back once things have perked up a bit?

“No doubt I will get it in the neck from those who say that I should be thankful to have a training contract, and yes, I agree, if I’d known this was going to happen I never would have taken it up. However, I’m keen to rectify my mistake, and perhaps by not taking one of the few NQ jobs that will be available in September I am going some way to doing so.

“So I suppose my question is, am I mad to have spent years training to qualify as a solicitor only to throw it all in, or would I be even madder to continue in a profession I hate just because I feel I should given the effort I have put in so far?”
