Simmons & Simmons is considering closing its Rotterdam office to focus its Dutch practice on Amsterdam, Legal Week can reveal. The City firm kicked off an internal consultation last month, bringing years of speculation about the office's future towards a close. While most law firms have concentrated on Amsterdam the city has proved controversial for Simmons, which launched in the Netherlands in 2002 through a merger with Rotterdam's Nolst Trenite.Simmons initially said it would operate solely in Rotterdam but changed its stance in early 2007 when it opened in Amsterdam. However, the vast majority of staff remain in Rotterdam, which has 75 fee earners compared with 23 in Amsterdam.
