Finnish leader Hannes Snellman is launching in Stockholm, bringing in five high-profile Swedish partners from three different law firms - Link-laters, Vinge and Setterwalls. Linklaters' Stockholm head of litigation and arbitration Martin Wallin, who announced that he was leaving to join Swedish independent Setterwalls only last month, is among the partners, along with three M&A and capital markets partners from Setterwalls - Soeren Lindstroem, Richard Aakerman and Jan Jensen.M&A partner Fredrik von Baumgarten will head the new office, joining from Swedish leader Vinge, along with Sara Mindus, who has joined as an M&A partner, having previously been a senior associate with Vinge.Wallin is the only partner free to join on 1 October but the Finnish firm hopes to be up and running for large transactions by the end of 2008. It intends to recruit around 30 lawyers for the office during the next year. The Swedish launch gives the 99-year-old Finnish law firm its seventh office. Aside from its Helsinki headquarters it has a presence in Moscow, St Petersburg, Kiev, Beijing and Shanghai.Von Baumgarten said the firm is planning further Nordic expansion, looking at Oslo and Copenhagen for openings. He told Legal Week: "I was attracted to Hannes Snellman because it is an innovative firm that wants to do something new. It is an international firm with a Nordic tradition. The long-term plan is for Russia to stand as one leg of the practice and the Nordic region as the other."Hannes Snellman's main rival, Roschier, launched its Stockholm office in 2005. The firm expanded the offering to include a dispute resolution practice earlier this year when it brought in high-profile litigation partner Claes Lundblad from Mannheimer Swartling to head the group.
