From his office on the twenty-fifth floor of the China Resources Building in Beijing, Fulbright & Jaworski partner Jeffrey Blount can look out over the palaces of the Forbidden City and across the capital to its western hills. The perch offers a great view, says Blount, except for the clouds of choking smog that frequently get in the way.

Beijing2008The pollution, of course, is a by-product of China’s spectacular growth during the past decade – growth that has been quite lucrative for Beijing-based lawyers. Blount has even found a way to leverage the smog. “If I can see the Forbidden City from the office, I know it’s safe to take a run after work,” he says.
