In both cases, those dreams usually go unfulfilled.Los Angeles' O'Melveny & Myers thought it had its chance in 2002, when it acquired New York-based private equity boutique O'Sullivan. The plan was that O'Sullivan would supercharge O'Melveny's New York corporate presence with a high-end private equity practice that included clients such as Apollo Management and JP Morgan Partners. Additionally, O'Sullivan's 88 lawyers would bolster O'Melveny's 118-lawyer head count.
