A US judge has given the green light to a $500m (£252.4m) class action brought against international conglomerate General Electric (GE) by one of its most senior lawyers. Lorene Schaefer, a former high-flyer and general counsel at GE's transportation arm, has won the first round of her sex-discrimination case, which accuses GE of giving unfair preference to men in promotions to the company's top legal jobs.
