I have looked into the possibility of sitting the New York Bar Exam. From what I have read it appears to be less stringent for an English-trained lawyer to do so and I feel passing the exam would greatly help my future career prospects.

However, having had a minor heart attack looking at Bar Review providers in the UK, I am looking for an alternative form of revision to simply rocking up at an electronic lecture, receiving piles of materials and paying £3,000 for the trouble. Is there a cheaper alternative? Home study, for example, or a recommended reading list where I could buy the materials for myself? I have heard of revision materials you can buy online – but I am sceptical of handing over £150 for someone else’s notes.
