Trademark attorneys will be recognised with their own professional title following an agreement between the Law Society and the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (ITMA). Following a period of mediation, the Law Society agreed to allow the ITMA to register ‘trademark attorney’ as a certified title. The news comes amid long-standing concerns within the intellectual property community that trademark attorneys – qualified to act on issues relating to trademark law – would be confused as having a legal qualification.
