You don’t have to work for the CIA for an in-house job to be alluring. The Diary spies in South Africa last week overheard (okay, eavesdropped on) a less-than-discreet chat between one recruiter and a potential in-house recruit in the lobby of a swish Johannesburg hotel.

From the perspective of the recruit, the prospects looked good. The employer was an up-and-coming diamond mining company operating in several African countries and had worked hard to pair up the potential recruit with the headhunter.
