The Diary was recently alerted to a strange finding from Legal Week’s latest Associate Survey, which threatens to open a whole new can of politically correct worms.

Striking an unprecedented blow for diversity was Ince & Co, which belied its rugged shipping-law image of comprising only burly men’s men of a nautical bent. According to data supplied by the firm, 45% of its senior associates are female, and 50% are male – suggesting that several of its associates are either neither (as it were) or, more intriguingly, both.
