I am a five-year PQE associate working at a US firm in London. The partner I now work most closely with is a monster who screams his head off whenever someone makes the smallest mistake and treats everyone, especially women, with the utmost contempt.
Although his work is chaotic, he is one of the top billers at the firm so management, which is weak anyway, has no interest in reining him in. This is despite the fact that his behaviour is totally unacceptable when measured against the firm’s avowed commitment to diversity, gender balance, collegiality and so on.
