The European Union (EU) is considering proposals to introduce new rules protecting consumer rights in a move that could lead to class action-style suits being coordinated across Europe. The European Commissioner of consumer affairs, Meglena Kuneva, announced at a meeting in the European Parliament this week (13 March) that measures could be introduced allowing individuals and consumer bodies in different EU member states to band together in pursuit of collective redress.
