With a combined population of just 7.3 million, the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania represent a small legal market. Yet with big-name local companies like Skype headquartered in Tallinn, Estonia, the region punches above its weight in several industries.

Shipping, too, remains strong. In June this year, Estonian shipping company Tallink announced a £406m buy-out of a rival Finnish outfit from Sea Containers. The tie-up is expected to transform Tallink into the largest shipping operator in the increasingly active Baltic region – a sign of the maturing of Estonia’s shipping industry.
