Earlier this month, a host of mobile phone manufacturers and network operators in Europe committed to a new programme led by the European Union (EU) that aims to reduce the environ-mental impact of their products.
The commitment is one of the first pilot projects to improve the environ-mental performance of products under the EU Integrated Product Policy (IPP) initiative that aims to encourage a voluntary approach to improving the environ-mental performance of products. This involves taking a ‘lifecycle approach’ and looking at the environmental impacts at each stage of a product’s life.
