The Diary is all for a bit of regional squabbling – Newcastle or Sunderland? Reading or Swindon? Indeed, that fierce sense of local pride contributes immeasurably to making UK commercial law the most diverse melting pot of white, male, middle-aged Oxbridge graduates anywhere in the world.
Sadly, however, those rivalries have been put to one side for the 2006 Two Cities Conker Competition, which today (5 October) sees lawyers in Birmingham and the City unite in a spirit of well-meaning competition to raise cash for the NSPCC.
