London’s top three firms are set to break away from their UK rivals after emerging as major winners in the resurgent legal market, according to Legal Week research which shows the top 50 UK firms posting their best 12 months since the last M&A boom.

Legal Week‘s 2005-06 results (see table attached below), the first finalised picture of the financial performance of the UK’s top firms, shows the UK reasserting itself on the global stage, with the group on average seeing turnover rise by 13.1% to £9.3bn. Average profits per equity partner (PEP) increased by 19% to break the £500,000 barrier.
