For all their faults, accusations of false modesty are rarely among the criticisms levelled at City lawyers. Similarly unburdened by delusions of inadequacy is the British and Irish Association of Law Librarians (BIALL), which on 16 June threw its never-less-than-anarchic annual bash celebrating excellence in the key fields of alphabetising legal directories, shushing boisterous partners and occasionally dusting the resident copy of Fish Sunday Thinking.

The awards, adjudicated by BIALL members and representatives from Lexis-Nexis, saw Hill Dickinson chief rubber-stamper Marilyn Siddons-Smith collect the gong for ‘best legal information professional in a large law firm’.
