Trowers & Hamlins has trumped CMS Cameron McKenna on one of the biggest leisure deals so far this year, advising private equity house GI Partners on its £571m acquisition of 290 managed pubs from Punch Taverns.

Trowers has traditionally handled smaller pieces of work for GI Partners but was chosen in preference to Camerons for this deal. Camerons has advised the client on a number of M&A deals, such as its £155m acquisition of Yates Group in 2004 and its subsequent £202m sale of the business to Iranian property tycoon Robert Tchenguiz last year.
