Linklaters this week installed corporate heavyweight David Cheyne as its new senior partner, ending months of speculation over the contest for the City giant’s top job.

The move, first reported on legalweek. com (20 June), sees Cheyne take up a five-year term in the role from 1 October after a formal partnership election saw the M&A veteran fend off finance chief Giles White and restructuring partner Robert Elliott. He takes the reins from the outgoing Anthony Cann, who is set to leave Linklaters in the autumn after 37 years with the firm.
