The Law Society has been handed a £250,000 fine by the Legal Services Complaints Commissioner, it was announced today (17 May), after the independent watchdog slammed Chancery Lane’s bid to improve its complaints-handling record.

Commissioner Zahida Manzoor issued the fine following her criticism last month of Chancery Lane’s 2006-07 plan to improve its complaints handling record, claiming the body was too reliant on increasing its budget and resource as the main way of improving its service.
