The Government recently made another announcement on its city academies programme. This came at, or about, the same time as the latest political scandal and much of the detail of the announcement was perhaps lost. The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) confirmed the academies would now be delivered through Partnerships for Schools, the entity responsible for delivering the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.

It is this latter programme, though it rarely receives publicity, which is likely to have a significant impact on the education standards of the next generation and significantly alter the means and manner in which local government will procure in the future.
