Telewest general counsel Stephen Cook has left the company after the completion of its merger with rival telecommunications giant NTL in what will be welcome news for NTL’s legal advisers.

It is understood that Cook, who joined Telewest in August 2000, left after the merger was completed in March. NTL general counsel and company secretary Bryan Hall has taken on the role at the merged company. The departure of Cook, who had been at Telewest since 2000, bodes well for NTL lead counsel Travers Smith, whose position as prime adviser was cast into doubt when it emerged the two companies were in talks last year.
